Yuri Kozyrev was born in Russia. He began his photojournalist career in the 1980’s, covering every major conflict in the former Soviet Union. Following September 11th, he was in Afghanistan documenting the fall of the Taliban. Kozyrev has been in Iraq since 2003 and has travelled throughout the country, covering all sides of the conflict for Time magazine. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the International Center for Photography’s Infinity Award in 2006, the OPC Oliver Rebbot Award and six World Press Photo awards, the last in 2012.
