It wasn’t long after Art and Helen Tanderup retired that TransCanada began trying to claim the couple's 160-acre farm—a farm that’s been in Helen’s family for a century—so that the company could build the #KeystoneXL tar sands pipeline. If built, KXL would run a mere 600 feet from the Tanderups’ house just north of Neligh, Nebraska. Today, the Trump administration announced it would issue a permit authorizing construction of KXL—a project President Obama rejected in 2015. “We have two kids, and we hope to pass this farm onto them and to our grandchildren. If this pipeline’s here, we don’t know what we’ll do,” Art says. “I would ask [Trump], as I have before, to come to Nebraska. Come out and visit the landowners on this route. Come out and see the sandhills. Come out and look at the aquifer and see what it does for us. Come out and see how this is going to destroy the livelihood of the heartland of the United States. Come out and see how this is not—this is not—making America great again.” Photo: Mary Anne Andrei/Bold Nebraska

A man collects rubbish from on top of the Dhapa landfill in Kolkata --- Coastal cities in India, such as Kolkata and Mumbai, have been identified as some of the most at risk to climate change effects, such as rising sea levels. In late 2016 however, Kolkata was named as one of the 11 best cities in the world for addressing the effects of climate change at the C40 Mayor's Summit in Mexico City. "Kolkata’s climate change risks have been exacerbated by unsanitary disposal and waste dumping...[The city's] project aims to eradicate open dumping and burning of waste and to limit the concentration of methane gas generated in landfill sites." A promising step for one of the world's most vulnerable cities. --- @natgeocreative @pulitzercenter -- #india#asia#kolkata#environment#waste
Went for a beach walk and took a refuse bag with us. Filled it within 10 minutes along with a bucket we found and also filled. Next time you take the dog to the beach or just go for a wander, why not do the same? Small actions together can make a big difference for the world 😊 #beach#environment#cleanup#scotland#highlands
Fun Fact #2 : @Aveda has an ongoing partnership with the Yawanawa Tribe of the Brazilian Amazon. This tribe uses a red seed called "uruku", derived from the Urukum Palm, to paint their bodies for different rituals. This partnership has helped to sustain the Yawanawa Tribe while helping to bring attention to the plight of their disappearing rainforest home!
