Unfortunately, violence against women has not decreased despite the law on elimination of violence against women that was introduced in 2009.
The Ministry of Women’s Affairs registered more than 4,000 cases of violence against women in the last nine months of 2016. Violence against women was severely under-reported in Afghanistan due to insecurity, lack of a functioning government or judiciary, and traditional practices which combine to discourage victims and their families from reporting violence.

It's not everyday that you have the chance to spend the day and photograph the legendary street photographer Mr. Louis Mendez and Washington D.C's Bob Taylor. I must say it has been a true honor and privilege to capture this Black History moment up close and personal.
Mum meets the students // When we discussed what my mum wanted to visit in Myanmar, I listed the usual tourist sights: Shwedagon, Bagan, Mandalay, and the Golden Rock teetering on a seemingly gravity-defying point. So, here we are on the road with my students. // Sittwe, Rakhine State, Myanmar // Chloe Smith, NEH Director of Operations and Teacher Trainer // For more, read our blog (link in bio).
