Finally using this beautiful aqua spotted jersey I picked up from @abakhanfabrics for pennies last summer...the mama bear has asked for a New Look 6447 (like my floral one) that'll work for #memademay right?! #bankholidaysewing

#ontheblog this morning is my 60's-inspired New Look 6799 dress in Alexander Henry 'In Crowd' print. Modifications made to the skirt but other than that it was a nice easy sew! Full deets and more lovely retro London pics on the blog post - link in bio 👍🏻🇬🇧 photos by @hmexus 📷
🇬🇧Good morning everyone! Yesterday was very productive. 😉I and my mom went to the center to shoot a photo in a new coat. 📷The result will show a little later, but for now a little sweets 🍭 in the ribbon! And how do you spend this weekend? #stacycoblog
It made my day to see @saramadethat post her interpretation of the #portfoliodress I adore the fabric she's used - a perfect illustration than you can totally make a pattern your own with the threads you choose. It's one thing I love about this little project. Another is charting her journey. So far she's travelled from America to Sheffield, Southampton to Bristol and she's currently in Norway. I can't wait to see where she goes next. If you're hankering for a chance to get your hands on this out of print beauty, DON'T COMMENT HERE - hop over to @saramadethat and comment on the picture of her portfolio #patternrelay 💚✂️💚
#mmmay17 This is my autumnal shaded My Me Made May pledge, cos that's my main challenge: A #memade Summer month would be a breeze, I'd just throw on some pretty dresses🌞 But since I mostly sew prints not plains, cold weather work wear is more often a memade skirt/pants with thrifted or store bought top, or vice versa ☔❄ Plus lots of fine woollen knits, rarely handmade 🐑 Or jackets, which I'm not particularly interested in sewing ✂
To top it all off my weekend style is very casual and mostly thrifted - I save the pretties for work 💄
So for someone who does so much sewing this probably sounds a bit cautious but it will be a challenge.
My pledge is to wear one memade item of clothing each weekday in May. Plus at least one fully memade outfit each work week. The garments that aren't memade will aim to be thrifted or otherwise ethically made.
When I did my pledge on @sozoblog I also pledged not to sew anything new until I've either finished or ditched my pile of ufos, but I might give myself some leniency on that for a couple of new plain items to solve my print/plain matching dilemmas.
So, Me Made May. Bring it on! 🎉
My dress in a lineup of gorgeous handmade dresses down at @harmonyprovo!!! 👗👗👗💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼 Head on in and vote for your favorite! (Ah hem, mine. Just kidding. Vote for your favorite, even if it's not mine. Integrity and all that.)
A little sneak peak of what's to come on the blog on Monday - the Hampton Jean Jacket pattern from @alinadesignco is amazing!! This white jean jacket is going to be a summer staple for me - check back on Monday for all the details and more pictures!
Day 5 of #makersforfashrev @inthefolds 🌿🌎✌️ I'm a few days behind the schedule. Hoping to catch up! The theme is "one person's trash." I've been so psyched to see all the posts and to learn how creative everyone is!
Everything you see here, including the coffee mug☕️😉, is second hand finds. Like many other sewists participating in #fashionrevolution , I'm also trying to make the most of resources, including our waste. Indeed, thrift stores are my go-to for almost anything I need. Especially sewing pattern shopping, I love shopping secondhand! There're so many fantastic sewists who create a modern, sophisticated look with vintage patterns. Old does not mean out of fashion!
The newest member of my fabric treasures😍💎 // Ich war gestern bei meiner lieben @grabpa zu Besuch und hab alle ihre Stoffläden gesehen...😱 Himmel!! Sooooo viele schöne Stoffe...hab ungefähr 8 🙈gekauft, u.a. diesen süßen Jersey. Ist eigentlich ein Kinderstoff, aber ich finde ihn so schön, dass ich mir ein Top daraus nähen möchte...😊👚🦆 (Schwäne gibt es hier leider nicht😜)
Not a happy bunny. Put this vintage zip in, (lapped zip style) then found there were two teeth missing so had to take it out again. FFS. Think I'll get an invisible zip and do it that way instead. GAH!! #sewingproblems#epicfail
April's sewing plan is a wrap.
Completed: My version of the new Sorbetto and a Toaster Sweater1 for spring- both coming to the blog soon. I also made up a couple changing pad covers as a gift.
Bonus: The Show Your Stoff blog tour I hosted went over very well!
I had fun participating in the Knock It Off Tour hosted by Lulu & Celeste and Sprouting Jube Jube.
Busted 3.5yards from stash
Incomplete: I only just started on my Shoreline from @blankslatepattens
#makersforfashrev day 4 one person's trash// I've loved thrifting since I was a teenager, the hunt, that the clothes had stories to tell, what an economical way it is to find great fabric, and as I've learnt more about fast fashion how it is also a much more environmentally friendly way to source fabric. I really enjoy refashioning, breathing new life info other people's trash, the extra challenge posed by limited and wonky shaped fabric, I love incorporating wee details of the original garment (the welt pockets in this jacket came about because there were existing holes in behind the original patch pockets) so my story becomes a sequel to its previous life. this jacket was literally a complete product of someone else's trash in which I saw gold, swipe left for the thrifted "before" and #vintagepattern#fashionrev#fashionrevolution#imademyclothes#lovedclotheslast
#sewapril2017 Day 29 - tried and true pattern. I was wracking my brains for this one. I subscribed to Ottobre for so long I have a gazillion patterns and like to try out new ones rather than remaking them. Then I remembered these dollies. I've made lots over the years for school fetes and friends' birthday parties. The pattern is from an old @womensweeklymag craft book and is very simple. What makes the dolls special is they wear a school uniform to match the child's own, made from old uniform dresses.
