Tbilisi and all of Georgia has been making significant effort to attract tourists and it shows everywhere. From prominent signs in English, to a beautiful historical area, trendy coffee shops and restaurants with staff who speak English, German and French this is a city working hard to become tourist friendly. This street, Galaktioni Tbidze street has been beautifully restored and is lined with some lovely restaurants and coffee shops. Although technically open to traffic the cars were so rare and drivers so polite they would wave me off when I would run up to move my tripod out of the way as I was blocking traffic. "Don't worry" they yelled "I wait." This sets the general trend for this city and country - they are incredibly welcoming to tourists, they truly want you here. From the woman who gave me a free water bottle because I had nothing less than a 20 on me, to the man who paid for my metro ride because I couldn't figure out how to charge up the card, to my hosts who spend hours helping me arrange my day and overnight trips I never had a second of doubt that I was welcome here. This welcoming spirit really helps smooth over any minor misunderstandings you might have with language as english is not wide spread around here yet. I would suggest having a cell phone translate app when traveling here, it'll save you some hassle. But remember Georgians use a different alphabet set, so if possible download the keyboard and you won't have any trouble communicating. Please check my blog in a few days for detailed itinerary and my stories for in the moment details about my trip. #tbilisi#tbilisilovesyou#georgia
